Album Reviews and Press:
Gothronic :
After their last album ‘Venal’ Bahntier is back, this time in the form of a collaboration with the experimental formation Black Sun Productions (who worked with guest artists as Coil, Lydia Lunch and H.R. Giger). ‘Enoeraew’ contains older reworked tracks from both acts, but also new pieces of music. While Black Sun Productions is more about atmospheric and experimental music, Bahntier ventures more into the realms of hard electro-industrial, so this collaboration should make an interesting album. The album starts with ‘Veneration X 2009’. The rhythmic elements sound like Bahntier with a more IDM approach, while there are atmospheric (vocal) sounds that seems like the work of Black Sun Productions. ‘We Are Here’ is a nice song that reminds me of the work of David E. Williams, albeit more electro oriented. It’s very atmospheric too with good vocals. ‘Chemism’ is next, which originally came from Black Sun Productions’ ‘Chemism’ album, and now comes in the form of a Dysphoria remix. The song is stretched and twitched to create an atmospheric whole. Next up is ‘Sweet Home Under White Clouds’, which is a cover of a song by The Virgin Prunes. The song is turned into a Black Sun Productions style experimental song. The title track ‘Enoeraew’ is an atmospheric and rhythmical song of almost 10 minutes. The song has very good sound design with the use of vocals. ‘Smell Undefined’ is a hard electro glitch song with lots of bleeps and tweaked sounds. ‘Uncle Billy (His Sperm Mix)’ is again a very atmospheric and experimental Black Sun Productions song with added Bahntier sounds. ‘Homoccult’ is then again more of a glitch song with some nice atmospheric synth work. ‘Interlude’ is just that, a short interlude of weird sounds and drones. ‘Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep’ is a very quiet and beautiful song with a dark and sad undercurrent. The album ends with ‘Summer Of 1969’, which starts with a minute of silence before nice synth work and guitars come up; the sound of summer emerging.‘Enoeraew’ is a good and very interesting album. It really combines the experimentalism of Black Sun Productions with the more electronic and rhythmical sounds of Bahntier to create an original sound. Recommended to lovers of experimental, yet accessible, electronic music.
Reflection Of Darkness
ENOERAEW’ is a collaboration album of the experimental sound and performance group BLACK SUN PRODUCTIONS and BAHNTIER, an Italian project that could perhaps be best described as electro-industrial that leans heavily on industrial metal but also on dance, especially break-beat. The different backgrounds of the projects are reflected on the album: 'Veneration X' mixes computer sounds with chanting while the groovy background in 'We Are Here' brings in mind the Bristol sound and 'Chemism (Dysphoria mix)' has a pulsating bass line reminiscent of old-school EBM. In a Virgin Prunes cover ‘Sweet Home under White Clouds’ a chanting choir, backed only by a subtle drum and bright bell sounds, takes a ritualistic twist to the original. Chanting and recitation also have a prominent role in title song 'ENOEWRAEW', which is also perhaps the best synthesis of the two artists’ music on the album. The characteristic computer sounds on ‘Smell Undefined’ make it more modern, IDM-like, but the chanting is back in 'Uncle Billy (His Sperm mix)'. Here, human voice is used also as an instrument and at times is so heavily processed it's hard to distinguish it from synthesizer sounds. Sinister bubbling of ‘Homoccult’ is followed by another instrumental track, ‘Interlude’, and funereal yet soothing ‘Don't Stand at My Grave and Weep’. The album ends with the mellow ‘Summer of 1969’, another instrumental track with folky tunes and airy flutes. The performance and lyrics are theatrical, absurd - and openly homosexual throughout the album. While some of the theatrical performance can be conveyed through the recording, these elements are for the most part missing. Visuals and performance have been part of BLACK SUN PRODUCTIONS from the beginning and there’s no denying this music is best enjoyed live.
