After the triumphant concert held at the Wave Gotik Treffen in Lipsia, Bahntier comes back with his third album. This time the eclectic Stefano Rossello, in addition to his inseparable companion Filippo Corradin, is accompanied by JUSTIN BENNETT directly from SKINNY PUPPY, who has worked hard to leave an indelible mark with his drumming virtuosity and violent percussions. The album is characterized by a suffering atmosphere marked by extreme, compact tracks and surely its technical and artistic level is very high. Distorted vocals ranging from hard industrial sounds to great piano compositions, extremely fast noise rhythms and real electro hard hits not heard in a long time. Produced by Stefano Rossello with Justin Bennett. Assembled and mastered by European industrial electronic music mastermind ERIK VAN WONTERGHEM (INSEKT, SONAR, MONOLITH, KLINIK). Defined by the critics as one of the records of this year, it puts Bahntier among the cult groups of the new international electronic scene.

BLINDOOM is the latest : Bahntier // release and since from its first track you'll realize that something different is going on. The sound is different, more organised and less disturbing respect the previous “Revulsive”. Then you read that on drums and production worked Justin Bennet (drummer of the Skinny Puppy, Pigface, My life with a trill kill kult, Peter Murphy) and then you understand. You understand that an Italian act got an international recognition and thanks to Justin, Eric Van Wonterghem (member of Insekt, Sonar and Monolith which mastered the album) and Kenji Siratori (cyberpunk writer which collaborated for the spoken word parts and with noises on “Nucleus”). The tracks are focused on rhythm thanks to the percussive sounds as well as to sequenced basslines and on this structure Stefano sing his lyrics with a filtered voice that sounds sick. Check tracks like “Dispute” (it recalled me also some early N.I.N. tunes with whispered vocals and a certain tense atmosphere), the opening “Dsimulation” (here the atmosphere created with noises and a piano is really functional and tense) or the closing “Underworlds”, where you'll find a sort of industrial dub based sound thanks to the drums section played by Justin. Anyway, by listening to the ten tracks there's no doubt that the project evolved and this will please the lovers of electro industrial music. Chain dlk

C'era grande attesa per il nuovo, terzo full-lenght firmato da Stefano Rossello (aka :Bahntier//), un nome tutto italiano di cui possiamo andare orgogliosi anche all'estero (...ed i consensi racconti in Germania non sono frutto del caso). "Blindoom" è il disco della maturità, un'occasione per raggiungere e superare nuovi orizzonti, un lavoro che parte sempre dal substrato electro-noise del passato ma che si colora di nuove sfumature cyberpunk, quasi a voler ridisegnare i confini del suono industrial nordamericano di scuola Skinny Puppy. E Justin Bennett, che un percorso simile lo ha già battuto mille altre volte proprio con i Puppies, qui è l'ospite che non ti aspetti, impegnato in nevrotiche percussioni come se fosse un suonatore tribale trapiantato nel cuore di una soffocante metropoli; se a ciò poi aggiungiamo una grande produzione ad opera di Eric Van Wonterghem (Insekt, Monolith, Sonar) il cerchio si chiude, lasciando nelle nostre orecchie un album tra i più belli ascoltati ultimamente, così nevrotico, malato e deviato da poter essere paragonato ad una release dei migliori Skinny Puppy (mantenendo comunque alcune importanti distanze stilistiche, che distinguono la creatura di Stefano da tante altre semplici imitazioni). "Hiding Face", la cadenzata "Dispute" e le scorie nucleari della violenta "Panic Flame" spiccano il volo e lasciano senza fiato, provare per credere... Grande disco, che ribadisce un concetto chiaro: industrial music for collapsing people!

Nach "Randome" und "Revulsive" liegt mit "Blindoom" nun die dritte :BAHNTIER// Veröffentlichung vor. Beim letzten Album erkannte ihr Label Parallelen zu SKINNY PUPPY, mit Justin Bennett zogen sie sich nun deren Livedrummer als vollständiges Bandmitglied mit an Land. Wobei ich es anmaßend fände, die musikalische Weiterentwicklung an seiner Person festzumachen. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger wirkt das musikalische Schaffen wesentlich gereifter, :BAHNTIER// orientieren sich auf ihrem neuen Werk an klassischem Oldschoolindustrial Marke SPK oder TEST DEPARTMENT. Ihre Botschaft klingt nicht wie der typische Sound, den wir heute mit Industrial verbinden, sondern vielmehr wird experimentiert, Berührungsängste zu Elementen anderer Stilrichtungen gibt es nicht. So setzt z.B. der Opener "Dsimulation" auf reduzierte atonale Klänge und dem relativ kurz gehaltenen Stück "Panic Flame" merkt man schon recht deutlich die Handschrift des Produzenten Eric van Wonterghem an. "Stainless" gräbt sich durch eine sehr prägnante Bassline in den Gehörgang und auch im weiteren Verlauf merkt man der Band den positiven Entwicklungsprozess an.
Gesanglich finde ich zwar, dass :BANHTIER//, auch wenn dies wohl nicht im Vordergrund ihres Konzeptes steht, sicherlich zu den schwächeren Acts gehören. Die Mischung aus analogen Drumklängen, Effekten, Sounds und Noise sorgt dennoch für kurzweilige Untermalung, die so manche Schwäche schnell vergessen lässt. Anspieltipps sind für mich noch die letzten beiden Tracks "Phagocyte/ Oblivion" sowie "Underworlds", die durch geschickte Arrangements hervorstechen.

Bahntier kommen aus Italien und gelten in der dortigen Electroszene bereits seit längerem zu einer konstanten Größe. Mit Alben wie "Revulsive" oder "Random" sorgte die Band bereits für Aufsehen und veröffentlichte zudem zahlreiche Beiträge auf diversen Electro/Industrialsamplern u.a. den Clubhit Fractal Desire. Dieser findet sich nun auch auf dem neuen Album der Band Blindoom, dass erneut die Grenzen zwischen technisch machbarem Electro und finsteren verstörenden Soundscapes auf ganz eigene Weise auslotet. Das Trio bestehend aus Stefano Rossello, Filippo Corradin und Justin Bennett hat bei dieser Veröffentlichung Verstärkung durch Kenji Siratori erhalten und zusammen schaffen es Bahntier, die eigenständige Entwicklung, die sich sich bereits auf Revulsive abzeichnete, fortzusetzen, Bahntier wollen nicht gefällig klingen, nein, vielmehr als das, experimentiert die Band auch dort, wo andere bereits den Save-Knopf an ihrem PC drücken. Das Ergebnis ist ein intensives Erlebnis voller düsterer Momente und Eindrücke. Anspieltips: Hiding Face, Fractal Desire. Fazit: Bestes Electrofutter mit intelligentem Anspruch!

Nach "Random" und "Relusive" legen Bahntier nun ihr mittlerweile drittes Werk vor. Im Vergleich zu den Vorgängern sind die Jungs noch eine Spur besser geworden. Verzerrte Vocals treffen auf teilweise sehr technoide Rythmen, gepaart mit Gitarrensamples oder aber auch mal Klavier-Klängen. Wie beim Opener "Dismulation" der so richtig schön unter die Haut geht. Freunde von krachendem Elektro, der auch gerne mal etwas abseits der Norm sein darf werden hier sicher voll auf ihre Kosten kommen. Allerdings darf man von Bahntier kein glattes 0-8-15 Album erwarten. Ecken und Kanten lassen sich auch hier wieder einige entdecken. Was das Album nur besser macht. Glatten Elektro kann schließlich heutzutage jeder produzieren.

BAHNTIER// Blindoom (Rustblade/Masterpiece) :Bahntier// migliora a vista d'occhio. Il che è sicuramente positivo, per la creatura in sé e per il potenziale di export del Paese chiamato Italia. Anche perché la formazione ha incorporato, in occasione della registrazione del nuovo (e terzo) album, oltre che per i concerti, un musicista di sicuro affidamento. Infatti al fianco di Stefano Rossello e Filippo Corradin troviamo Justin Bennett (addirittura affiliato alla sacra corona unita chiamata Skinny Puppy, non so se mi spiego!). E il valore aggiunto, per una band che già aveva nel proprio impianto cromosomico una connotazione di matrice Skinny Puppy, è, quanto meno, definitivo. Il salto di qualità, dal punto di vista esecutivo e in fase di produzione, ma anche nella stesura dei brani (che è comunque stata interamente gestita da Rossello), è evidente e apporta un quid complessivo capace di far compiere a :Bahntier// un balzo in avanti determinante. Il merito va di certo attribuito a una scrittura più focalizzata sulle singole tracce rispetto al passato, dove veniva privilegiato l'impatto complessivo del sound, mentre all'interno di ‘Blindoom' il concetto di canzone è maggiormente definito e chiaramente esplicitato. Il disco ha gli indubitabili punti di forza nella gestione creativa delle parti elettroniche, nell'amalgama della diversa strumentazione, nel perfetto concept percussivo gestito da Bennett (che sa integrare con maestria sopraffina le parti programmate con quelle umanamente suonate e intercalare il tutto nel contesto dei brani), nella mutevolezza delle trame, pur mantenendo un filo conduttore, che si muove tra il cibernetico e il “digitale terrestre”, e in dieci brani multiformi e perfetti.
